Children’s Summer Entertainment
With the sunshine finally starting to make an appearance, it is time to get those children to put away their computer game consoles and get outdoors to play. Unfortunately, for many this is a very difficult process however, fortunately there is an abundance of summer entertainment ideas to choose from!
Summer Camps – Not suitable for all children, but summer camps are a fantastic way to get children away from the house and enjoying learning new things and exploring new territory. It can be very daunting for younger children, however once they have started to settle in and make new friends, they will have forgotten all their worries and just have a great time. There is a huge range of summer camps from day camps to summer long camps. This can be a great way to keep children active and help them build up confidence.
Sports clubs – When the kids break up from school, they suddenly find themselves with hours in the day and usually complain of ‘nothing to do’. This highlights the perfect opportunity to get them into the local sports club or sports team to keep them busy. Children are able to pick the sport they wish to take part in and can keep fit all summer long. It is also a way for children to find new friends and improve their sporting ability. From swimming, cycling and tennis, to lacrosse, there is a huge variety of sports available – so there is something to suit everyone.
Day Trips – If you can manage to get some time off work in order to spend a few days with the children then there is also a fantastic variety of day trips to go on. These can be both educational and entertaining and don’t have to cost the earth. Some of the most popular trips include the Zoo, Theme Parks, Museums and trips to see the London attractions. There are also a whole host of free activities such as making a picnic and heading over to the local park to feed the ducks which children often find just as entertaining. The downside to day trips are that they require some careful forward planning and the English weather is not always forgiving to spending your day outside looking round a Zoo for example.
The Garden – A fantastic resource for encouraging children to play outside is the garden! Some children may not rate your garden as very entertaining, however with the right set up and appropriate toys; it can be transformed into the perfect outdoor entertainment centre. This summer in particular sees a range of great new toys being released from top toy companies such as Step2 and Plum.
Some of the more popular additions to a garden include paddling pools, sandpits, climbing frames and playhouses. These simple toys can be the centre of entertainment with children being able to play both alone and with friends. The most prominent feature to any entertaining garden is the climbing frame. Step2 is one of the most popular climbing frame manufacturers with their Skyward Summit being voted as the most popular outdoor toy of 2009. These pieces of equipment allow children to entertain themselves whilst keeping fit and getting some fresh air. Playhouses are also incredibly popular and come in many forms such as the puppet theatre playhouse from Win Green. These allow children’s imaginations to run wild and create stories to keep them amused.
